Wenge, with its rich, dark tones and dense grain, is a superb choice for coffee tampers. Its natural oils make it incredibly durable and resistant to moisture, ensuring that your tamper will stand the test of time. Beyond its durability, wenge's weight and density provide an exceptional balance and stability when tamping espresso. This creates a consistent and even tamp, which is essential for pulling the perfect shot.
All our wood handles are artisan-crafted by Reg himself, and finished by hand using Reg's proprietary mixture of food-safe natural finishes. They develop a soft, satin patina with use.

These wenge handles are new old stock, crafted by Reg in the 2000s or 2010s. Because of their vulnerable status, we will not be making any more wenge tampers until sustainable reforestation measures have ensured this beautiful species's chances for long-term survival. Once they're gone, they're gone.
Sustainability:
This wood species is not listed in the CITES Appendices, but is on the IUCN Red List. It is listed as endangered due to a population reduction of over 50% in the past three generations, caused by a decline in its natural range, and exploitation.
